ALL Wheelchair/Handcycle athletes must start with the general race start at 7:15 am. Due to the nature of this course, we strongly recommend that wheelchair/handcycle and participants with strollers exercise their best judgement and approach the course with caution. This course gets very narrow at times and the shoulder of the road may be dirt.
The best way to join us at the race is by carpooling!
All parking – for participants, spectators, volunteers, vendors and staff – will be located at the CSU Channel Islands campus:
CSU Channel Islands
1 University Dr,
Camarillo, CA 93012
While the half marathon start line is also located at the parking location (CSU Channel Islands), we will have shuttles available to transport spectators between the parking location and the race festivities. Please note that access to the Finish Line Festival will ONLY be available via the Run Malibu shuttles. Please do not attempt to park or drop off near the Finish Line Festival on PCH – you will be turned away by CHP officers and blocked from entering.
All participants and spectators will take Run Malibu shuttles from the Finish Line Festival back to their cars after the event.
On race morning, we will have parking staff and signage directing you to your parking location and start line, as well as to the shuttles if you are coming with spectators. We are covering the cost of parking as well as the shuttle rides, but we recommend carpooling as there is limited space available on campus.
Gear Check will be available for all half marathon participants. Gear check will be located in the Athlete’s Village adjacent to the start line at CSU Channel Islands. All checked bags will be transported to the finish line once the race begins and can be retrieved at the gear check tent there upon finishing.
This event is committed to preserving the coastline’s natural environment and in order to comply with the recent single-use plastic ban, the race will not provide plastic bags for Gear check. Please plan to use the tote bag provided with your race packet or bring your own.
Participants can detach the gear check tag from their race bib and attach it to their tote bag using the provided cable ties or use one of the provided tags and write their bib number before attaching to their gear check bag.
Gear Check will open to drop off bags at 5:00am and must be picked up no later than 11:30am. Please do not check valuables. Gear is checked at your own risk. The race is not responsible for lost, stolen, or damaged bags.
The half marathon will operate on a self-seeded corral system. Participants should look for the pace-per-mile signs that line the start line to seed themselves accordingly. Those that plan to walk during the race should plan to start toward the back of the pack to avoid impeding those that are running at a faster pace.
The event will utilize a wave start. This will enable a comfortable starting position for runners and walkers of all paces. When the horn sounds, only the first corral will be released. The rest of the participants will be held at the start line. At predetermined intervals (every few minutes), the next corral will be released. By using this staggered starting method, the pack will be spread out and allow every runner to settle into their racing rhythm from their first step to the finish line. This will allow sufficient room along the course for the half-marathon, and at the finish line without affecting individuals’ time or the time participants must complete the race.
Half Marathoners should park 60 to 90 minutes before their race start. Please note, if you are traveling with spectators, they will need to immediately board a shuttle to the Finish Line Festival if they intend to meet you there, as the spectator shuttles will be boarding and running continuously from 6:15am – 6:45am.
Join 20 legendary Run Malibu pacers as they look to lead you to the finish line in your goal time. Look for our pacers and their goal finish time signs in the start chute and join them on your way to a strong finish!
All 7 aid stations will provide water, Skratch electrolytes, basic first aid, restrooms and cheers from the aid station volunteers.
The half marathon has a course time limit of 4 hours. Participants will need to maintain a pace of 20 minutes-per-mile to complete the race. Participants unable to maintain the required pace can continue to complete the race but will be asked to remain out of previously closed traffic lanes and adhere to regular traffic laws. Please note that this course can be very narrow on PCH. Please be mindful of runners passing and leave space for people to pass – stay alert and aware. If you are passing someone, please pass with extreme caution and ALWAYS stay within the cones.
Pacific Coast Highway will be reopened to vehicle traffic on a “rolling basis” determined by the 20 minutes-per-mile pace.
Course support including aid stations, timing mats, and post-race refreshments will be available to those that maintain the required pace. This policy is in place to ensure the safety of our staff, volunteers and the event's success. The Finish Line will remain open until 11:30 AM.
The top 3 male, female, and non-binary finishers in the half marathon will receive an award.
The top 3 male, female and non-binary finishers in each age group in the half marathon will receive an award. Please see the age groups below:
Awards must be picked up on-site from the Age Group Awards tent. Awards will not be mailed post-race.

Run Malibu participants need your support! The best place for your friends and family to cheer you on is right at the finish line, located at Mugu Canyon Rest area (accessible via a Run Malibu Shuttle ONLY). Please keep in mind that there is NO pick-up from this location. ALL participants, spectators and volunteers will be shuttled back CSU Channel Island.
